Health Science 20 |  Medical Imaging

HS20-DT1
Explore the tools and procedures used to diagnose and monitor medical conditions.

Indicators for this outcome

(e)
Research the operation, risks, benefits and imaging modalities (e.g., sound, light, radiation and nuclear medicine) of medical imaging tools, including X-ray radiography, magnetic resonance imaging [MRI], computed tomography [CT], ultrasound and positron emission tomography [PET]).
(f)
Describe technological advances in medical imaging tools (e.g., X-ray, ultrasound, computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging).

Students will meet the above Course Outcome by digitally completing the following research and reflection exercise:

Medical Imaging and Science
Due:  Thursday, January 10, 2019

 Science 10 | Chemistry Pre-Quiz

To prepare for our next major unit of study, students will complete the following:

Pre-Chemistry Quiz

This experience will be open book.  Students will be able use use any reference available, including their Science 10 textbook, their classmates, or the internet.

Environmental Science 20 |  Student Directed Final Project

ES20-SDS1
Create and carry out a plan to explore one or more topics of personal interest relevant to Environmental Science 20 in depth.
Student Directed Final Project
Step One Due:  Wednesday, January 9, 2019

Students will begin to mentally formulate a topic for the Student Directed Final Project.  This project will require students to examine a topic introduced this semester in Environmental Science 20 in greater detail.

Today, each individual will select a topic of interest.  Students may use this blog to review the material and topics we have experienced.  Once a broad topic is selected, a focus question will be formulated.  This focus question will guide the format of the final project.  Step One (page three) is due on Wednesday.  I will speak to each student individually regarding their Focus Question and intended format of this project.

Science 10 IB |  Chemical Reactions

SCI10-CR1
Explore the properties of chemical reactions, including the role of energy changes, and applications of acids and bases.

Students will gain knowledge toward meeting the above Course Outcome by participting in the following research and demonstration activity:

Reaction Lab
Due:  TDB

Students will arrange themselves in ten small groups.  Each group will be assigned one of the following types of chemical reactions:

 1. Synthesis
 2. Decomposition
 3. Combustion
 4. Single Replacement
 5. Double Replacement.

Each group will conduct research on the assigned reaction including formulating a demonstration of the reaction to be witnessed by their classmates.  Within each reaction, each group will be responsible for determining the reactants and products involved, describing the mechanics of the chemical reaction, and ensuring that their demonstration is safe for a classroom to observe.

Tomorrow, I will talk with each group regarding their proposed demonstration.
Demonstrations will occur on Wednesday.
