ES20-TE1
Analyze the importance of soils as an integral component of terrestrial ecosystems.

Recognize how the breakdown of parent material through various processes (e.g., weathering, erosion, deposition and decomposition of organisms) results in soil with varying   properties (e.g., colour, texture, structure and pH).
(h)
Recognize the role and diversity of organisms (e.g., nitrogen fixing bacteria, fungi, mycorrhizae, insects, plants and protists) found within soil environments.
Today, the class will read the book:

After you have read this story, Write a review of the book.  In your review, include a description of how a Nature Lover may be different from a person who understands nature.

Also, research and describe how small, seemingly insignificant organisms such as the earthworm are beneficial to soil environments.  Discuss how earthworms and other small organisms aid in the deposition and decomposition of organic matter.  Also, indicate other small or microscopic organisms that may be found in healthy soil.
